NBU raises estimate of banks' losses from 20% to 30% of portfolios

KYIV. Dec 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has raised its estimate of bank losses from 20% to 30% of their portfolios, according to a financial stability report published by the National Bank on Monday.

"Due to the still limited export opportunities and the shelling of the energy infrastructure, the total loss of the portfolio’s credit risk will rise to 30%," the NBU said in the report.

According to it, banks have already lost 9% of their loan portfolio, mainly as a result of the recognition of loans as non-performing.

In addition, an additional 14% of the portfolio will experience significant difficulties in servicing loans under current conditions.

According to First Deputy Governor of the NBU Kateryna Rozhkova, in 2022, lending took place almost exclusively within the framework of the Affordable Loans 5-7-9% program. In particular, its share of the net hryvnia corporate portfolio reached 26%.
