Metinvest's Kamet Steel resumes steel production after recent blackout

KYIV. Dec 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Kamet Steel plant of the Metinvest mining and metallurgical group, created at the facilities of the Dnipro Metallurgical Plant (DMK, Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region), resumed steel production after the suspension of work at the end of November due to electricity restrictions due to shelling Russian occupiers of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

According to the company’s press release on Wednesday, Kamet Steel’s converter shop resumed work, during the period of forced downtime, restoration work was carried out on continuous casting machines, crane equipment was repaired, and the mechanical, electrical and power equipment of both converters was revised.

At the same time, today, Kamet Steel resumed operation of converter No. 2 and continuous casting machine (CCM) No. 3. The units of the oxygen-compressor shop (CCC) are also operating, supplying the necessary components to the steelmaking process.

Gradually, subject to uninterrupted power supply, other production equipment will also resume work. Until the end of this year, the company plans to produce steel for the production of commercial rolled products.

Earlier it was reported that Kamet Steel resumed iron smelting in the middle of December after a temporary suspension of production due to shelling of the power structure.
