Market of new passenger cars in Ukraine in 2022 drops by 61.5% – AUTO-Consulting

KYIV. Jan 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian car market of new passenger cars plummeted by 61.5% compared to the pre-war 2021, to about 40,000 cars, AUTO-Consulting has reported.

"But the main thing is that the Ukrainian car market survived, it exists even during the war. Thanks for this to the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the website of the information and analytical group said.

At the same time, AUTO-Consulting said that last year’s results for the car market turned out to be the worst since 2000.

"For example, in 2015, when there was also a significant drop due to hostilities, the market reached 46,500 cars and showed a 50% decline," the group said.

On its Facebook page, AUTO-Consulting also provides preliminary results of sales of new passenger cars in December – 4,009 cars were sold, which is almost 23% more than in November 2022. Toyota retained its leadership with a market share of 27.4%, Skoda (10.3%) took second place climbing from third in November, and Suzuki (7.9%) moved up to third from eighth. The Renault brand, which occupied the second position in November 2022, fell to fifth place (5.7% of the market).

According to the group, the market for new light commercial vehicles (LCV) in 2022 fell by 69% to 4,000 vehicles, and, according to analysts, the total volume of 44,000 cars and light commercial vehicles sold was the lowest since 1997-1998, when the market for new cars was about 30,000 vehicles.

At the same time, the company said that already this year the leading operators of the Ukrainian car market expect positive dynamics.

As reported, in 2021, sales of new passenger cars, according to Auto-Consulting, grew by 20% by 2021, to 103,650 vehicles.
