Damage caused to Ukrainian economy as result of war exceeds $700 bln – Shmyhal

KYIV. Jan 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal says the damage caused to the Ukrainian economy as a result of the war exceeds $700 billion.

"Together with the World Bank, we plan to conduct another verification of Ukraine’s needs for a speedy restoration. Let me remind you that we have such a fix at the beginning of June. Then the figure was $350 billion in damage. Considering the latest attacks on our infrastructure, today this amount is more than $700 billion," Shmyhal said at a government meeting on Tuesday.

According to him, UAH 35.5 billion is included in the national budget for the current year. for the Fund for removing consequences of armed aggression.

"This is the construction and repair of public buildings, critical infrastructure facilities, providing housing for IDPs. We also expect to start restoration in the near future using funds seized from Russian banks, there are already UAH 17 billion on a special account for this. The first priority is the destroyed housing of people," Shmyhal said.
