Shmyhal: Ministries should be engaged in development of policies, rules, not management of real sector

KYIV. Jan 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ministries should be engaged in the development of policies and rules, and not the management of the real economic sector, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has said.

"We continue the reform of public administration. There should be fewer officials. Ministries should be engaged in the development of policies and rules, and not in managing the real sector. Digitalization will become the basis of a new format for interaction between the government, citizens and business," Shmyhal said at a government meeting on Tuesday.

In addition, according to him, in some sectors the state will be an active player, primarily because of the sensitivity of these sectors on national security issues, despite the course towards privatization.

"In 2023, we will move towards the creation of unified state-owned companies in the field of three strategic resources: land, water and forests. Instead of dispersal that breeds corruption, unification and strict control over the actions of managers. State-owned property should bring income to Ukraine for its sustainability today and for its development tomorrow," he said.
