Farmland market in Ukraine almost doubles late Dec – Ministry of Agrarian Policy

KYIV. Jan 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Over the past two weeks on December 19 through December 31, 5,390 transactions with agricultural land plots were concluded in Ukraine, which is 1.9 times more than in the previous period on December 5 through December 19, while the area of sold land plots doubled, to 11,040 hectares.

As reported on the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food on Tuesday, in general, for the period from July 1, 2021 as of December 31, 2022, during which the agricultural land market operates in the country, 142,940 transactions on land plots with a total area of 322,190 hectares were signed.

According to the ministry, in the period of December 19 through December 31, an average of 385 transactions with agricultural land with a total area of 790 hectares per day were concluded daily, while on December 5 through December 19, these figures were respectively 203 transactions for 390 hectares per day, and for November 21 through December 5 – 214 transactions for 420 hectares per day.

This figure is still significantly lower than before the Russian invasion: according to the latest pre-war data from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, for the period February 11 through February 18, an average of 621 land transactions with a total area of 1,650 hectares were concluded in Ukraine daily.

In terms of the total area of sold agricultural land plots, Kharkiv region is in the lead with an indicator of 39,470 hectares. It is followed by Dnipropetrovsk region with 28,950 hectares, Poltava region with 26,340 hectares, Kirovohrad region with 26,120 hectares and Kherson region with 21,030 hectares.

During the two weeks most agricultural land was sold in Dnipropetrovsk region (1,250 hectares), as well as in Khmelnytsky (1,190 hectares), Vinnytsia (1,070 hectares), Poltava (1,050 ha) and Kirovohrad (805 ha) regions.

According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion in Ukraine, 41,980 transactions have been concluded with agricultural land with a total area of 77,690 hectares. During the war, most land plots were sold in Khmelnytsky, Vinnytsia, Poltava, Kirovohrad and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

At the same time, by December 31, 2022, the average price of 1 ha of agricultural land grew by 11% compared to December 15, to UAH 52,460 per ha from UAH 47,280 per ha.
