Germany may transfer BMP Marder to Ukraine after France provides AMX-10 – media

KYIV. Jan 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Germany may transfer Marder BMP to Ukraine after France provides AMX-10 RC, the Süddeutsche Zeitung German edition said on Thursday.

According to the publication, government circles are talking about a "qualitative step" in military support for Ukraine. The decision was made in close consultation with France and the United States. It is not yet known how many tanks will be delivered and when.

Head of the defense committee of the German Bundestag Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann supported the idea of transferring Marder infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine. This is not the first time that the politician of the Free Democratic Party has been lobbying the interests of Ukraine in the Bundestag.

"We should now begin the redeployment of the Marder infantry fighting vehicle to Ukraine and immediately begin training in its management… We definitely need to move now," Shtrak-Zimmerman said.

The representative of the German parliament spoke approvingly of France’s decision to transfer tanks on wheels to Ukraine. "It is important that our Western partners are again the first to take the step they could expect from us," the official said.

She said Marder is in sufficient quantities in the warehouses of the Bundeswehr, as well as spare parts for them.
