Germany to give Ukraine additional Patriot air defense battery – Biden-Scholz call statement

KYIV. Jan 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Germany will join the United States in supplying Ukraine with an additional Patriot air defense battery, the White House reports.

"In late December, the United States announced its donation of a Patriot air defense missile battery to Ukraine. Germany will join the United States in supplying an additional Patriot air defense battery to Ukraine," according to a statement following the conversation between US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The statement stressed that in light of Russia’s ongoing missile and UAV attacks on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, President Biden and Chancellor Scholz reaffirmed their intention to continue to support Ukraine’s urgent need for air defense.

Also in the conversation, they approved the ongoing coordination of the efforts of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and welcomed additional deliveries of air defense systems and fighting vehicles.

The fact that Germany will provide Ukraine with Marder armored personnel carriers and the Patriot air defense system was also announced after a telephone conversation between Scholz and Biden by the press secretary of the German government, Steffen Hebestreit, on Twitter.
