Ukraine's energy system due to impending cold weather will face increase in electricity deficit – Ukrenergo

KYIV. Jan 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine’s energy system will face an increasing shortage of electricity due to a rapid increase in consumption caused by a significant cooling expected soon, Ukrenergo said.

"In the near future, a significant cooling is expected, which will lead to a rapid increase in consumption, which at present the energy system is not able to cover in full due to the damage and occupation by the enemy of a number of power plants that produce electricity, including the most powerful Zaporizhia nuclear power plant," the company said.

At the same time, it noted that during the night period, power plants produce enough electricity to cover consumption, therefore, to ensure a balance in the energy system, all regions of Ukraine were informed about consumption limits from 08:00 to 23:00 on January 6.

Ukrenergo recalled that exceeding the limits leads to the application of emergency restrictions, as happened, in particular, on January 5, when emergency shutdowns were introduced in most regions.

"Please consume electricity wisely, use energy-intensive appliances alternately. This reduces the load on the power system and reduces the need to limit consumption," the company said.
