Registration of imported used cars in Ukraine decreases by quarter in 2022 – Ukrautoprom

KYIV. Jan 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainians in 2022 registered 388,500 used cars imported from abroad, which is almost a quarter less than a year earlier, but more than 10 times more than the market for new cars, Ukrautoprom reports.

The average age of used cars that switched to Ukrainian registration in 2022 was 13 years.

Volkswagen remains the most popular brand among imported used cars with 73,400 registrations, Renault ranks second with 31,800 registered cars. The third most popular brand was Ford with 28,000 units.

The fourth was Opel – 25,400 units, and Skoda closes the top five with 25,300 Ukrainian license plates.

The oldest car that received a Ukrainian registration in 2022 was a 1977 Nissan Cedric.

As reported, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in order to stimulate imports, among a number of goods for the period of martial law, from April 6 exempted the import of vehicles by citizens from taxation, but canceled these benefits on July 1.

According to MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak, during the grace period, Ukrainians imported almost 237,000 cars without paying duties and taxes, and the amount of the granted benefit amounted to UAH 26.1 billion.
