Rada working on bills necessary for joining European community before start of talks on EU membership – Stefanchuk

KYIV. Jan 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Before the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s full membership in the European Union, the Parliament is already working on draft laws, the adoption of which is necessary for joining the EU, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk said.

"After the European Union gives an assessment [of Ukraine’s implementation of the European Commission recommendations for the start of negotiations on accession to the EU], 35 sections will open before us, according to which we will be told which law to harmonize in which part… Of these 35 sections, 33 are directly related to legislation… We are ahead of schedule… There are things that we know will definitely be there, we are trying to adopt them," Stefanchuk said in an interview on the air of the telethon on Friday.

He recalled that the Ukrainian parliament had already adopted the law on copyright and related rights. According to him, work is currently underway on draft laws on the protection of personal data and on the environment.
