Interest of European traders in Ukrainian gas transmission capacities increases since new year – GTSOU

KYIV. Jan 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Since the beginning of 2023, the interest of European traders in the Ukrainian gas transmission system (GTS) and underground gas storage (UGS) facilities has increased amid a decrease in gas prices in the EU and storage occupancy by 80%.

"Interest in Ukrainian capacities has been growing since the New Year. After all, the price of gas at European hubs has dropped to pre-war levels. European storage facilities are more than 80% full and the pumping season is being restored," GTS Operator of Ukraine LLC (GTSOU) said on the Telegram channel on Monday.

As the company noted, the difference between prices in the short-term and long-term markets in the autumn of 2022 prompted Europeans to pump gas, including into Ukrainian storage facilities.

"After all, the operators of the gas transmission system and underground storage facilities offer attractive products for customers of services – flexible and convenient," the GTSOU emphasized.

In 2022, the services of the Ukrainian GTS were used by traders from Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova, who stored gas in Ukrainian storage facilities or used short-haul.

"Gas from Poland was transported to Slovakia through Ukraine, and Moldova finally introduced a virtual reverse and is actively using Ukrainian storage facilities to store its own gas reserves for the winter," the company added.

Currently, more than 1,000 customers from 26 countries of the world store their gas in Ukraine.
