Project for additional supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Europe to be presented in Feb – Bulgarian president

BAKU. Jan 9 (Interfax) – A project for additional supplies of Azerbaijani natural gas to Europe will be presented in Baku on February 3 at a meeting of the energy ministers of the states participating in the Southern Gas Corridor project, Bulgarian President Rumen Radev said on Tuesday when receiving Turkish Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Donmez in Sofia.

"This is a project that allows for immediately beginning the pumping of additional volumes of natural gas from Azerbaijan to Europe with minimal funds. Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, and Austria have joined this project at Bulgaria’s initiative," Radev was quoted as saying by Bulgarian National Radio.

Donmez noted, in turn, the possibility of expanding cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkey. "Turkey, taking into account its geographical location and the infrastructure at its disposal, is prepared to provide assistance with supplies of gas, be it from the Caspian Sea region, the Middle East, or the Eastern Mediterranean," he said.

Supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Europe began on December 31, 2020.
