Motor transport provides third of imports to Ukraine in 2022 – Deputy Infrastructure Minister

KYIV. Jan 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Freight transport provided a third of all imports to Ukraine in 2022 – 10.6 million tonnes out of 30.3 million tonnes, said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Mustafa Nayyem.

"In monetary terms, this share is even larger – $34.85 billion, or 64% of the value of all imports ($54.5 billion)," he wrote on his Facebook page.

According to the deputy minister, since the beginning of the year, imports by road have increased by almost half both in physical volume and in monetary terms, and after the initial drop due to the full-scale invasion – by 6 times.

According to the ministry, the second place in terms of imports into the country is occupied by the railway – 9.89 million tonnes, the third is sea transport – 7.16 million tonnes, the fourth – pipeline transport (2.62 million tonnes).

It is specified that in December, imports by road amounted to 1.23 million tonnes for $4.27 billion compared to 1.15 million tonnes for $3.64 billion in November and 690,000 tonnes for $2.29 billion in January.

Railway transport imported 500,000 tonnes worth $690 million in December compared to 480,000 tonnes worth $570 million in November and 2.76 million tonnes worth $1.22 billion in January.

In turn, sea transport in December provided imports of 340,000 tonnes for $400 million compared to 280,000 tonnes for $340 million in November and 2.16 million tonnes for $1.52 billion in January.

Pipeline transport imported 290,000 tonnes worth $460 million in December compared to 90,000 tonnes worth $280 million in November and 430,000 tonnes worth $1.16 billion in January.

At the same time, maritime transport became the leader in ensuring exports in 2022 – 53.86 million tonnes. In second place is the railway (33.73 million tonnes), then road transport (12 million tonnes).

According to the ministry, in monetary terms, maritime exports are also the leader – $17.9 billion (40.5%), automobile exports are in second place – $16.2 billion (36.5%), and rail exports are third – $9.05 billion (20.5%), while pipelines accounted for $1.03 billion (2.3%).

In total, in 2022, Ukraine exported almost 99.8 million tonnes of goods, and their value amounted to $44.2 billion.
