By KYIV. Jan 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The German Federal Agency for Technical Relief (THW) delivered the first ten high-performance power generators (with a capacity of 450 kW or more) to a warehouse in Ukraine, from where they will be transferred to food producers operating in regions affected by the Russian invasion, as well as recently de-occupied territories.
According to the website of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine on Tuesday, the humanitarian aid was financed by the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In total, the German agency planned to transfer more than 700 generators to support the Ukrainian energy system. Of these, at least 25 generators will be provided to food producers, in particular, for the production of bread, milk, livestock products, providing electricity to storage warehouses, and others.
The first ten generators with a capacity of 450 kW or more have already been delivered to a warehouse in Ukraine, from where they will be transferred to food producers located in war-affected territories and in areas to which access has recently been restored.
"We sincerely thank the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine for their help with the distribution of generators for food producers. This is crucial to support production and ensure the food security of the population, in particular, in the most affected areas," the Ministry of Agrarian Policy said citing agricultural attaché at the German Embassy in Ukraine Frank Müller.
In turn, FAO Ukraine Designated Responsible Officer Pierre Vauthier said during a meeting on transferring equipment that in 2023 his organization will continue to help the Ukrainian agricultural sector with critical resources, such as generators, seeds and grain storage facilities.
