ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih reduces tax payments by 40% in 2022 due to drop in production because of war

KYIV. Jan 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – PJSC ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih (Dnipropetrovsk region) in 2022 paid UAH 8.8 billion in taxes and fees to the budgets of all levels, which is 39.7% less than the total amount of tax payments for 2021 (UAH 14.6 billion).

According to a press release, out of UAH 8.8 billion in taxes and fees, UAH 3.4 billion went to the state budget and UAH 2.1 billion to local budgets. The company also transferred about UAH 1 billion of social security tax and UAH 2.3 billion of value added tax when importing raw materials.

In the structure of taxes and fees in 2022, the largest payments were on royalty for the extraction of iron ore (UAH 2.8 billion) and the amount of land tax paid. So, the local community of Kryvy Rih received almost UAH 1.2 billion of land tax from the enterprise, which is UAH 300 million more compared to 2021. This tax has become the main component of the growth of payments to local budgets.

Serhiy Plichko, the financial director of the plant, noted that already during martial law, the company paid significant amounts of taxes in advance to support the Ukrainian economy.

"Despite the difficult market situation caused by the war and the closure of ports, we managed to keep jobs for 26,000 employees, although during this year the level of capacity utilization did not exceed 20-25%. Despite all the challenges associated with the war, the energy situation, downtime of equipment and individual divisions, the company ensures a stable flow of taxes to the state budget and local communities," the expert said.

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih is the largest producer of rolled steel in Ukraine. It specializes in the production of long products, in particular rebar and wire rod.
