Oschadbank closes p2p transfers through website due to their use for gambling

KYIV. May 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The state-owned Oschadbank announced the closure of the possibility of p2p transfers through its website after MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak reported that he made a payment through Oschadbank to 1win gambling company without a license, passed under the code MCC 6012 (financial services).

“The transfer that served as the basis for the accusations against Oschadbank was a regular p2p money transfer created on the bank’s official website for individuals. Considering that it is impossible to single out and block the implementation of just such operations because it is outside the bank’s influence zone, a decision was made to temporarily block access to this service on the website from May 7,” the financial institution said.

Oschadbank added that an analysis of the atypical activity of such operations, as well as independent test operations, showed the likelihood that offenders would use the service on the bank’s website for illegal purposes.

The state-owned bank said that it has no legal or technological relations with the organizers of sweepstakes, casinos, or other types of gambling business, and for the purpose of securely transferring funds, it offers to use the Mobile Oschad service.

As reported, before Oschadbank, Zhelezniak made a similar payment through another state-owned bank, PrivatBank, the largest on the market, but a few hours later, the MP said that PrivatBank had already removed the possibility of such a payment and thanked the National Bank for this. The state-owned bank said it was investigating the case.
