Agricultural exports increase by 16% in Aug compared to July – UAC

KYIV. Sept 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In August 2023, Ukraine increased the export of agricultural products by 16% compared to the previous month – up to 4.3 million tonnes, and this is without taking into account the growing queues of vehicles at the borders, the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club (UAC) reported.

“Such export volumes in August 2023 is an incredible result. Despite all the obstacles (Russian shelling of the Danube river infrastructure, falling water levels in the Danube, a ban on the export of a number of key items of Ukrainian exports to neighboring countries, etc.), as well as the absence of sea exports, Ukrainian farmers and traders continue to provide the world with the necessary food,” the analysts noted.

They clarified that the Danube river ports remain the most productive channel, thanks to which 4% of agricultural exports were delivered to foreign markets in August.

In the structure of agricultural exports in August 2023, the share of grain crops increased by 2% and amounted to 2.3 million tonnes (wheat – 52%, corn – 39%, barley – 9%).

Deliveries of oilseeds to foreign markets increased by 2.3 times to 755,400 tonnes (rapeseed – 94%, soybeans – 4% and sunflower seeds – 1%).

The share of cake after extraction of vegetable oils in the agricultural export of Ukraine in August 2023 increased by 15%, to 367,300 tonnes (sunflower oil – 98%, soybean – 2%).

The volumes of supplies of vegetable oils remained unchanged – 548,900 tonnes (sunflower oil – 81%, rapeseed oil – 17%, soybean oil – 2%).

Analysts noted that the largest changes in August 2023 were observed in the export of oilseeds, the volume of which increased by 2.3 times. The main reason they called the end of the rapeseed harvest in Ukraine and its active export.

“The next month is important for determining further trends in Ukrainian exports, since on September 15, 2023, the ban on exports to neighboring countries of four key positions should end. The removal of this restriction will significantly improve the situation with Ukrainian exports, which the entire Ukrainian agricultural sector hopes for,” the report says.
