KYIV. Oct 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – About 4.985 million tonnes of winter crops were sown in Ukraine, compared to 4.5 million hectares a week earlier; Volyn, Zakarpattia, Zaporizhia and Poltava regions have completed the autumn sowing campaign, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food has reported.
According to the report, farmers from all regions of Ukraine have completed sowing winter rapeseed, for which 1,136 hectares were allocated.
In other regions, sowing of wheat, millet and rye continues. In general, farmers have already sown winter grains (3.343 million hectares a week earlier) on 3.849 million hectares, of which 3.456 million hectares (3,018 hectares) are occupied by wheat, 322,000 hectares (260,000 hectares) are occupied by barley, and rye – 71,000 hectares (63,000 hectares).
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy noted that farmers in Sumy region are leading in the sowing of winter grain crops – 97% of the forecast. The leader in the rate of sowing wheat is Dnipropetrovsk region with 271,300 hectares, of barley – Mykolaiv region with 25 thousand hectares, and of rye – Volyn region with 13,000 hectares.
Over the previous week, the increase in winter grain sowing was 506,000 hectares.
