BAKU. Nov 9 (Interfax) – Azerbaijan intends to boost the production of green energy and become an exporter, the press service of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev quoted the president as saying.
“In the near future, Azerbaijan will become a potential exporter of green energy, including hydrogen energy. In accordance with contracts and memoranda of understanding signed with foreign investors that are the world’s leading companies in the field of green energy, energy production from renewable sources in Azerbaijan will reach 10 GW in the coming years,” Aliyev said on Thursday at the 16th ECO summit in Tashkent.
Aliyev noted that the total capacity of hydroelectric power stations in Karabakh and East Zangezur would be 500 MW in a few years.
“In 2021-2023, hydroelectric power stations with total capacity of 170 MW were put into operation in Karabakh and Eastern Zangezur. By the end of 2024, this figure will reach 270 MW,” Aliyev specified.
