Azerbaijan's physical exports of oil fall 4.7% in Jan-Oct, gas exports up 23%

BAKU. Nov 16 (Interfax) – Azerbaijan’s declared exports of oil fell 4.7% year-on-year in January-October 2022 to 22.683 million tonnes, the Azerbaijani State Customs Committee told Interfax.

The overall value of the oil exported rose 53.1% to $17.18 billion.

Oil accounted for 49.49% of Azerbaijan’s overall exports in January-October 2022 compared to 66.59% in January-October 2021.

A total of 28 countries bought Azerbaijani oil. According to the customs committee, Italy was the main consumer of Azerbaijani gas as usual, accounting for 36.9% of all Azerbaijani oil exports in January-October 2022 at 8.363 million tonnes for $6.264 billion.

Italy was followed by Israel at 2.06 million tonnes for $1.503 billion and India at 1.878 million tonnes at $1.549 billion.

The top ten buyers included Croatia, the Czech Republic, Spain, United Kingdom, Portugal, and Tunisia. The Netherlands joined the list in October.

China, Canada, and a number of other countries that actively bought Azerbaijani oil in 2021 were absent from the list.

Insignificant volumes were supplied to Russia and Georgia in January-October 2022.

Azerbaijan’s declared exports of gas rose 23.1% year-on-year in January-October 2022 to 18.38 billion cubic meters with a value of $14.653 billion, up fivefold, the customs committee said.

Gas supplies accounted for 42.21% of Azerbaijan’s overall exports in January-October 2022 compared to 17.52% in January-October 2021.

The State Customs Committee does not publish a breakdown of the individual countries that receive Azerbaijani gas. It keeps export statistics on the basis of declarations. Declarations on gas sold are furnished following the actual sale, not when it is pumped through pipelines.
