Blocking Ukrainian-Polish border to stimulate expansion of state programs for processing products – opinion

KYIV. Dec 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Blocking of checkpoints on the border with Ukraine by Polish carriers encourages the Ukrainian authorities to pay more attention to programs to support food processing in the country, a member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy Dmytro Solomchuk said.

“Next year, both the parliament and the government will focus on programs to support processing in order to process their products as much as possible: not 30%, as now, but 80%. We will feed our population and conquer markets with high-quality and affordable products,” the Verkhovna Rada press service said, citing the MP.

According to him, authorities at all levels are doing everything possible to unblock the border for road transport. Thus, Ukrzaliznytsia has already joined the transportation process, which returns trucks to Ukraine on platforms.

At the same time, the MP said “the European Commission does not understand the policy of Poland, where officials say that the issue of blocking the border should be decided by local governments, but locally they claim that they cannot ban rallies.”

In his opinion, the Polish authorities can solve the problem very quickly by taking tough measures against those who illegally block checkpoints on the border.

At the same time, Solomchuk said due to the situation at the border, Ukrainian businessmen who sold Polish products on the domestic market are refusing such goods.

“Polish producers are also suffering from this situation, because in Ukraine there has been a significant reduction in the number of Polish products – dairy, meat, clothing, shoes, building materials, etc. Our business says that it will look for a replacement for Polish goods. If Polish producers do not contribute unblocking the border, they will lose billions,” the parliamentarian said.
