By BRUSSELS. Dec 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Union’s ninth package of sanctions against Russia will allow Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia, for which the embargo on Russian oil supplies has been deferred, to export oil products made from Russian crude to Ukraine.
A European Council regulation published in the EU’s official journal on December 16 said that this decision will enable Bulgaria, Hungary and Slovakia to export to Ukraine some oil products made from Russian crude imported based on the dispensation from the embargo, including by transit through other EU countries if necessary.
Another provision of the regulation allows Bulgaria to export to third countries certain oil products made from Russian crude imported under the dispensation.
The publication attributes this to the need to reduce risks for the environment and safety, since such products cannot be kept safely in Bulgaria.
The document stated that such annual exports should not exceed average annual exports of such products in the past five years.
