Canada includes 35 individuals, 6 energy companies in Russia sanctions list

WASHINGTON. Oct 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ottawa is imposing sanctions on 35 more individuals, including members of Gazprom management, as well as six energy companies from Russia, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Friday.

Canada is adding 35 more individuals to the Russia sanctions list, including powerful leaders of the state-owned Gazprom, and the country is also sanctioning six businesses in the energy sector, Trudeau said in Winnipeg.

According to the website of the Canadian government, the sanctions lists, in particular, included Deputy Prime Ministers of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak and the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov, Minister of Energy Nikolai Shulginov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Gazprom Viktor Zubkov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Gazprom Vitaly Markelov, head of the company’s investor relations department Anton Demchenko, the official representative of Gazprom Sergey Kupriyanov.

Among the companies, NK LUKOIL, the insurance company SOGAZ, and the transport and logistics group Transoil also fell under the sanctions.

According to Canadian authorities, since the beginning of Russia’s large-scale military invasion of Ukraine, Ottawa has imposed sanctions against more than 1,000 individuals and 250 legal entities from the Russian Federation.
