Centerenergo's TPPs fully supplied with coal to get through winter

KYIV. Nov 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – PJSC Centerenergo managed to obtain sufficient fuel resources for its thermal power plants (TPPs) to pass the autumn-winter period of 2023-2024 thanks to the supply of coal from all Ukrainian state-owned mines, as well as its import from Poland.

“For the first time in several years, domestic coal from all state-run mines is being actively loaded into the warehouses of enterprises, and wagons with coal from Poland are arriving… at present, we can confidently say: we will have collected sufficient resources to pass the autumn-winter period,” the company reported on its website on Thursday.

As the company said, it has not experienced such large-scale cooperation and support for domestic miners since 2019. At the same time, imported fuel entered the territory of Ukraine for the last time in March 2022. Since then, there has been no partnership with foreign suppliers.

“We have prioritized working with state-owned mines. This is our economy, this is the development of Ukrainian mines and salaries for Ukrainian miners. In conditions of war and the enemy’s energy terror, it is very important to support our own people and specifically our own budget,” General Director of PJSC Centrenergo Andriy Churkin said.

At the same time, he explained that own coal is not yet enough to get through the heating season, so from the moment he headed Centrenergo, the company immediately began searching for suppliers of imported fuel to ensure additional volumes and stable reserves of coal in the warehouses of thermal power plants.

“Coal will be shipped from Poland on a regular basis; the contracted volumes will be enough for Centerenergo’s facilities and to back up the domestic market, if necessary,” Churkin said.
