Certification of Ukrtransgaz as European operator to make it possible to provide UGS facilities in Ukraine for EU strategic reserves – UTG head

KYIV. Dec 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Bill No. 8158, adopted by the Verkhovna Rada at the final reading on Tuesday, which will launch the certification of JSC Ukrtransgaz (UTG) as a European UGS operator in accordance with EU regulations, will allow Ukraine to provide its storage facilities for the creation of strategic reserves by the EU states.

"Finally, we will be able to move on to the practical implementation of this process together with the NEURC. We should, as soon as possible, get the right to store not only commercial orders, but also strategic gas reserves of the EU states at the official level. Successful certification will be the key to cooperation between Ukraine and our European partners," the head of the operator, Serhiy Pereloma, wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, obtaining certification will make it possible to maximize the capacity of UGS facilities in Ukraine, increase financial revenues from underground storage services, enhance energy stability in Ukraine and on the continent, and continue further development and fundamental integration of the Ukrainian gas market with the European one.

Pereloma also recalled that on December 13, NEURC approved a draft resolution defining the procedure for certification itself, which contains a list of documents, data and information provided by the enterprise submitting the corresponding request.

"Certification will be a landmark step for Ukraine, so we must make every effort to make it happen quickly, efficiently and effectively," he said.
