Demand for new passenger cars almost doubles in Ukraine in Aug

KYIV. Sept 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Registrations of new passenger cars in Ukraine in August this year almost doubled compared to August last year, to 5,800 units, which is also 9% more than in July this year, Ukrautoprom reported on the website.

The championship is still held by Toyota with a 49% increase in registrations by August 2022, to 1,118 units, and Volkswagen came in second place, pushing Renault aside, the registrations of which almost quadrupled, to 611 units.

Renault registrations increased by 2.4 times by August 2023, to 501 units.

BMW also got into the top five of the month with a 2.2-fold increase in registrations, to 433 units and Skoda with 394 cars (almost 2.5 times more).

The title of bestseller on the Ukrainian market of new passenger cars is retained by the compact crossover Renault Duster, which was chosen by 473 buyers in August.

According to Ukrautoprom, in total, 38,100 new passenger cars were registered in Ukraine in January-August, which is 56% more than in the same period in 2022.

At the same time, the information and analytical group AUTO-Consulting, analyzing car sales in August on its website, notes a “record figure”– 6,153 cars, which is 92% more than in August 2022 and 16.5% more than in July current year.

“The main thing is that the Ukrainian car market has been growing for six months in a row, and August sales have become better than the last 19 months. So, the Ukrainian car market is approaching the new business season in a very good condition and on the rise,” experts state, noting that almost all market operators recorded an increase.

According to them, Toyota remains the sales leader, which now owns almost 20% of the Ukrainian car market (compared to 17.3% in July 2023).

Volkswagen is on the second line with an increase by 30% to July to 747 units, Renault finished third with 506 cars (6.6% less).

In August, BMW returned to fourth place, which managed to get ahead of Skoda.

“The sales of Audi are also growing powerfully, which not only entered the top 10 of the car market, but also outstripped Mercedes-Benz,” the report states.

“According to AUTO-Consulting statistics, Renault Duster remains the most popular car, but it is already being overtaken by electric VW ID.4. It has already surpassed the sales of Toyota RAV4, Corolla and Camry,” the group’s analysts say.

The report notes that according to the results of eight months, car dealers have already sold 40,700 cars and will exceed the figure for 2022 next month.
