Energoatom disconnects one of nine nuclear power units in controlled territory for scheduled repair

KYIV. Jan 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Energoatom on Tuesday put one of the power units into scheduled overhaul, which is carried out every four years, to ensure nuclear and radiation safety under the terms of the license.

"During the overhaul, the reactor core is completely unloaded, the integrity of the reactor vessel is monitored by an automatic manipulator, preventive equipment repairs are conducted, spent nuclear fuel is removed and fresh nuclear fuel is loaded," the company said.

Thus, in the near future, eight out of nine power units of nuclear power plants located in the territory controlled by the state will operate in the energy system of Ukraine, Energoatom noted.

At present, all six power units of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhia NPP have been stopped, their activation is being blocked by the invaders. So far, ZNPP continues to constantly consume electricity for its own needs from the energy system of Ukraine.
