Estonia's Evecon plans to build a 270 MW hybrid energy park in Lithuania

VILNIUS. Dec 6 (Interfax-Ukraine/BNS) – The Naudingas Vejas company, part of Estonian renewable energy developer Evecon, plans to begin construction of a hybrid park containing wind and solar power plants and electric batteries near the Latvian city of Marijampole in 2026.

“Hybrid parks are the goal today because they provide the most efficient renewable energy, where both wind and solar are used, and the electricity generated can be stored in batteries and fed into the grid when needed,” project manager Aidas Gelbuda told BNS.

The total planned capacity is 210 MW from about 35 wind power plants, 60 MW from the solar power plants, and 21 MW from the batteries, he said.

Investments in the project are preliminary estimated at over 300 million euros. Financing is expected to come from the developer, private investors and bank loans.

It was previously reported that the Zalia Zema Company (part of the Evecon structure) is planning to build a wind or hybrid park with a capacity of up to 500 MW in the Moletai and Shirvinti regions of Lithuania. The plan is to build up to 62 wind turbines with a capacity of up to 8 MW each in the park. The project could cost up to 1 billion euros, and investments are planned to come from foreign funding sources.

Planning permission is expected to be issued in mid-2024, with the park due to begin operations in 2027.
