BAKU. Nov 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The European Union countries of Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria increased gas imports from Azerbaijan by 4.3% year-on-year to 364,157 terajoules (TJ) in January-September 2023.
According to data from the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), the EU countries spent a total of EUR 4.568 billion on gas supplies from Azerbaijan, a drop of 60% year-on-year, in the reporting period.
The EU countries reduced gas imports from Azerbaijan by 6.6% year-on-year to 41.648 TJ in September 2023, spending a total of EUR 389.205 million, a fall of 85%.
As previously reported, according to Eurostat data, the EU countries imported natural gas from Azerbaijan totaling EUR 15.599 billion in 2022, a four-fold surge compared to 2021.
Azerbaijan boosted gas exports by 18% to 22.3 billion cubic meters in 2022, with supplies to Europe totaling 11.4 bcm, an increase of 39%.
Azerbaijan plans to export 24.5 bcm of gas in 2023, with over 12 bcm going to Europe.
