EUR 65 mln needed to support Ukraine's cultural institutions – Culture Ministry

KYIV. Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Culture and Information Policy Ministry of Ukraine has said that the country’s cultural institutions need EUR 65 million.

"The total amount of financial assistance necessary for the critical regions of Ukraine, especially the frontline ones, is estimated at EUR 50 million. These are Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kherson and Kyiv regions. Another EUR 15 million are necessary for other regions of Ukraine since shelling attacks continue," the ministry’s press service said, summing up the results of a meeting between Culture and Information Policy Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Tkachenko and Deputy Head of the Bundestag Committee on Cultural Affairs and Media Marco Wanderwitz.

The parties discussed additional protection of cultural institutions on the form of emergency heating and energy saving systems in case of damaging networks by the Russian air and missile attacks.

"The cultural institutions lack emergency equipment, such as power generators, fire extinguishers, fire resistant materials for the storage of collections in winter," the ministry said.
