Exports via sea corridor reach 1.5 mln tonnes and will grow – Ukrainian Navy

KYIV. Nov 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The maritime corridor has turned from an export corridor into an export-import one, insurance rates have decreased significantly, exports by sea reach 1.5 million tonnes and will grow, said the speaker of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Dmytro Pletenchuk.

He emphasized that “the sea grain corridor is working.”

“We also believe that the number of ships will increase. This is a question of the first trial balloon. That is, the bravest ones went, regardless of the fact that insurance rates were quite high – about 5% of the cost of the cargo vessel, as far as I know. There were brave souls, who went first,” stated the speaker of the Navy.

According to his information, more than 70 vessels have already entered Ukrainian ports along the sea corridor, “I think it’s already closer to 80,” and about 60 have left.

“This contributed to a significant reduction in insurance rates. In addition, this channel has already turned not only into an export channel, but also into an export-import channel, which is also important,” the speaker said.

He emphasized that the Naval Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are making every effort to ensure the security of the sea corridor.

According to him, exports through the sea grain channel are approaching 1.6 million tonnes.

“This is quite a lot already,” summed up the speaker of the Ukrainian Navy.
