KYIV. Nov 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Finnish military and border guards are building barriers on the border with Russia, the PAP agency said on Sunday.
“The construction of additional protective barriers has begun in Finland’s Vartius, an operating checkpoint on the border with Russia. Fences and other barriers to protect the checkpoint from an uncontrolled influx of immigrants are being built by heavy army hardware, excavators and cranes,” the agency said.
“All is quiet now, but according to intelligence, an increasing number of immigrants may be coming from Russia,” it said.
Over 1,300 border guards are protecting the Finnish-Russia border, and police officers have been deployed as reinforcements, the agency said.
