KYIV. Sept 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The volume of gas from foreign traders who used the gas storage service in underground storage facilities (UGS) in Ukraine, as of September 13, amounts to over 1.8 billion cubic meters of gas, the Ministry of Energy reported.
According to Minister of Energy Herman Haluschenko, this was largely made possible thanks to the certification of storage facilities according to European standards, which is a significant step towards creating an energy hub in the country.
“European underground gas storage facilities are almost 94% full. Therefore, Ukrtransgaz’s gas storage capacity in underground gas storage facilities is becoming even more attractive to European traders. This is a good sign for us and Europe, because together we are strengthening the energy security of the continent,” the press service quotes the minister as saying.
The Ministry of Energy also recalled that Ukraine has the largest gas storage facilities in Europe with a volume of more than 30 billion cubic meters, of which about 15 billion cubic meters can be offered to European partners.
