Gas Distribution Networks of Ukraine receives license for distribution of natural gas

KYIV. Dec 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Registered by NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy, Gas Distribution Networks of Ukraine LLC (GDNU) received a license for the right to carry out economic activities for the distribution of natural gas within the territory of Kirovohrad region.

"This is an unprecedented challenge to reform the gas distribution system of Ukraine under martial law. I am grateful to NEURC [the National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission of Ukraine] for the trust and to each member of our team for this first victory on the path of a great process of change," Denys Myrhorodsky, Board Chairman of the company, said, whose words are quoted in a press release of the company on Wednesday.

The company said that the availability of such a license is an important condition for the implementation of economic activities for the distribution of natural gas.

As reported, the decision to issue a license to Gas Distribution Networks of Ukraine from January 1, 2023 was made by the NEURC at a meeting on December 26.

The National Commission also instructed the company, in particular, to accept natural gas metering units from the balance sheet of OJSC Kirovohradgaz before December 1, 2023.

The company is also obliged, before December 1, 2023, to ensure the fulfillment of the obligations assigned to Kirovohradgaz in previous years, as well as in 2022 after NEURC conducts state control of the company’s activities.

In addition, Gas Distribution Networks of Ukraine shall implement investment programs and plans for the development of the Kirovohradgaz gas distribution system.

On September 2, 2022, NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy registered Gas Distribution Networks of Ukraine LLC with a charter capital of UAH 250 million. The main type of its activity is the distribution of gaseous fuel through local pipelines.

At the end of May 2022, at the request of the State Bureau of Investigations, the court transferred the seized private corporate rights to 26 regional and city gas distribution system operators to the management of Asset Recovery and Management Agency (ARMA).
