By ODESA. Sept 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The German concern Rheinmetall provided the Armed Forces of Ukraine with a modern mobile field hospital. It meets NATO Role 2 medical support standards, the concern’s press service said.
The mobile field hospital has 32 beds, eight of which are for intensive care, and also has an operating room, laboratory and medical equipment – X-ray and computed tomography. Its production cost almost EUR 9 million.
“Rheinmetall has supplied a mobile field hospital to Ukraine. In total, in September 2022, the German Ministry of Defense entered into a contract with a subsidiary of the Rheinmetall group Mobile Systeme GmbH, or RMS, for the hospital and related training support,” the press service said in a statement.
The hospital has independent generating capacities and its own water supply, including treatment and decontamination. At the same time, the German company took over the responsibilities of equipment support and personnel training. In addition to the field hospital itself, Rheinmetall also provided Ukraine with the necessary vehicles.
According to the company, at the end of 2023 and the beginning of 2024, Rheinmetall and RMS plan to supply two more highly mobile medical support facilities to Ukraine.
It is noted that the ultra-modern field hospital is a completely self-sufficient medical support institution. It includes not only medical modules in expandable containers and tents, but also independent generating capacity and equipment for the production of medical gases. The hospital also has its own water supply, including treatment and decontamination, as well as facilities with sanitary modules for patients and staff. The high quality of the system can be seen in the details. For example, the water supply is heated, and the sensitive CT scanner in the container is equipped with a spring and a clever transport system, so it can be safely transported by land, sea or air, and is ready for use upon arrival. Designed for maximum operational mobility, all systems and equipment in the hospital are reusable.
