Govt approves regulation on specifics of electricity imports for 2022/2023 autumn-winter period – Melnychuk

KYIV. Jan 11 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a regulation on the specifics of electricity imports during the autumn-winter period of 2022/2023 under the legal regime of martial law in Ukraine, Taras Melnychuk, a representative of the government in the parliament, said.

The government made the relevant decision at a meeting on Tuesday, January 3.

"Conditions have been created for supplying consumers with imported electricity on a market basis, along with additional protection against planned forced power outages due to balance restrictions in the integrated power system," Melnychuk wrote on his Telegram channel.

As he explained, the regulation provides for the non-application of measures to limit consumption of electricity to consumers who are supplied with an imported resource.

"If special power outage schedules are applied, which are due to the need to prevent a systemic accident in the IPS of Ukraine as a result of Russia’s armed aggression, the supply of imported electrical energy to consumers may be stopped," the representative of the Cabinet of Ministers specified.

Ukrainian traders from late December 2022 began to participate in auctions to buy access to the interstate cross-section for imports from Slovakia, determined by NPC Ukrenergo from 200 to 234 MW, depending on the hour. The most active participant in the auctions is D.Trading LLC.

As reported earlier, the head of the Verkhovna Rada Energy Committee, Andriy Gerus, noted that the government was discussing the idea of providing business with guarantees of non-cutoff from electricity for a capacity equal to that of the expensive European resource imported by this business.
