KYIV. Jan 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – From January 16, the Government of Ukraine is launching a beta-testing program for the free exchange of old incandescent lamps for energy-saving LED lamps, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said.

"Today, the government is making a decision, due to which the amounts in utility bills will be even smaller. We are talking about a program for the free exchange of old electric incandescent lamps for energy-saving LED lamps," Shmyhal said at a government meeting on Tuesday.

According to him, from January 16, the program will start operating in beta testing mode.

The prime minister said at the first stage we plan to replace up to 500,000 lamps in six regions of Ukraine, and after that, approximately in two weeks, the project will be launched as usual throughout Ukraine.

"Everyone will be able to apply through Diia and then get five new lamps at the nearest branch of Ukrposhta. The whole process will be very simple and fast," he said.

Shmyhal also said the European Commission is buying 30 million LED lamps for Ukraine, and France is adding another 5 million lamps.

As reported, some 15 million LED lamps will be delivered to Ukraine in January as part of the implementation of humanitarian initiatives of the European Commission.
