Dec 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The volumes of purchases of foreign currency by the population of Ukraine in November exceeded the volumes of its sale by $390.6 million compared to $373.3 million in October and $202.5 million in September, the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) reported, correcting its data from a month ago.
According to updated information on its website, the net purchase in November came mainly from the cash market – $239.6 million: the purchase decreased slightly compared to October – from $1.372 billion to $1.370 billion, while the sale – from $1.144 billion to $1.130 billion.
According to these NBU data, turnover on the official foreign exchange market in November is about two-thirds of the pre-war level, while in the first months of the war after the total ban, it was less than 5%.
At the end of September, the increase of the limit for the purchase of noncash currency by individuals from UAH 50,000 to UAH 100,000 per month for its placement on deposit for at least three months by the National Bank was reflected in the updated statistics. In October, the volume of purchases of noncash currency increased to $323.9 million from $200.2 million in September, and in November it reached $362.2 million.
The volume of sales of noncash currency by the population last month also increased slightly – to $211.1 million from $178.6 million in October, and for the third month in a row since the beginning of the war, it became less than the volume of purchases.
The volume of transactions with noncash currency in October amounted to about 45% of the pre-war level.
In general, since the beginning of this year, according to official statistics, the population has bought $416.4 million more than it has sold, including $776.6 million more in cash than it has sold.
In the cash market, the U.S. dollar exchange rate is currently about UAH 40/$1, while the official rate set by the National Bank since July 21 is UAH 36.5686/$1. The U.S. dollar is quoted about UAH 0.2 cheaper than a month ago.
