IAEA inspection of Westinghouse nuclear fuel for VVER-440 at Rivne NPP passes without any anomalies

KYIV. Sept 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspected fresh nuclear fuel produced by Westinghouse for VVER-440 reactors in the storage facility of the Rivne Nuclear Power Plant, the press service of National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom has reported.

According to it, inspectors also checked the spent fuel pool of one of the plant’s units and the IAEA electronic seals in the reactor compartment of the unit.

Energoatom said that the scheduled inspection took place in full and was accomplished without any anomalies.

“Nuclear fuel for Westinghouse’s VVER-440 reactors, manufactured with the participation of Energoatom specialists, is a clear example of how to end Russia’s monopoly on the nuclear technology market because previously this type of reactor operated only on Russian nuclear fuel. However, now the situation has radically changed,” the company said.
