Kazakhstan plans to extend govt regulation on retail prices for petroleum products – Energy Ministry

ASTANA. Dec 21 (Interfax) – Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry plans to extend the government regulation on the maximum retail prices for petroleum products, the ministry’s press service said in a statement.

"The Energy Ministry plans to extend the order, dated May 19, 2015, of the Energy Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, regarding the government regulation on the maximum prices for the retail sale of petroleum products," according to the statement.

According to the draft order, the maximum prices for gasoline remain at the same level for AI-80 at 89 tenge per liter; for AI-92 and AI-93 at 187 tenge per liter in the Kustanay and North Kazakhstan regions, and at 182 tenge per liter in other regions of Kazakhstan; and the maximum price for diesel fuel at 450 tenge per liter. Upon presenting a driver’s license issued in the Republic of Kazakhstan, diesel fuel at 100 liters per day sells for 230-260 tenge per liter depending on the region. Upon presenting a certificate of vehicle registration in Kazakhstan, trucks and special and specialized vehicles and buses may buy up to the approved limit of 300 liters per day at 230-260 tenge per liter depending on the region. The remaining category of individuals, as well as those above the specified limits, may buy diesel fuel at 450 tenge per liter.

The draft order is available for online discussion until January 3, 2023.

Kazakhstan introduced differentiated prices for fuel and lubricants at the end of August following President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s instruction to the government to deal with the illegal procedures for exporting petroleum products to nearby countries in order to prevent a shortage of diesel fuel in the country.

The official exchange rate as on December 21, 2022, is 469.18 tenge/$1.
