Kuleba, Cambodian PM discuss aid to Ukraine in mine clearance, cooperation development

KYIV. Nov 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba discussed with the Prime Minister of Cambodia a package of assistance to Ukraine, and in the near future the countries will exchange ambassadors for constant communication.

"During the meeting with the Prime Minister, we discussed the provision of equipment for demining and training of Ukrainian sappers by Cambodian specialists, increasing trade volumes, digital transformation, cooperation in the field of education and food security," Kuleba said on his Facebook.

According to him, in the near future Ukraine and Cambodia will exchange ambassadors (concurrently) in order to have a permanent channel of communication.

Kuleba said he would also take part in the ASEAN summit in Cambodia.

"As I wrote, for the first time in history, Ukraine was invited to a meeting of the leaders of this powerful association of Southeast Asia, which includes ten countries: Brunei, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines," the minister said.

He said that during the summit he would hold bilateral meetings and sign an instrument of accession to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia. Kuleba said Ukraine will be the first Central European country to join this ASEAN document.

"This is an important practical result of the Asian strategy developed by the Foreign Ministry and a special honor for our state. Accession will bring concrete benefits to our state, business and citizens from political, military and economic cooperation to trade, increased exports and technology exchange," the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

According to the minister, "in October, the first ever tour of African countries has already brought concrete results for Ukraine."

"Today, diplomacy continues to open up new horizons for our state in Asia. ASEAN is one of the fastest growing regions in the world," Kuleba said.
