KYIV. Dec 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ocean Mall shopping center (Kyiv) is planned to open on September 1, 2024, its investor intends to participate in the privatization auction at the Ocean Plaza shopping center to combine projects, the investor’s representative Vagif Aliyev has told Interfax-Ukraine.
“By September 1, everything will be ready, including the restored so-called “Tarelka” [the building of the Ukrainian scientific institute]. The Ocean Mall shopping center will be 210,000 square meters, it is three times larger than Ocean Plaza in lettable area. We will participate in the privatization auction to combine the projects,” he said.
As reported, at the end of 2020 the building of the Ukrainian Institute of Scientific and Technical Expertise and Information located at 180, Antonovycha Street, (“Tarelka” on Lybidska) is included in the list of new cultural heritage sites. This building is the facade for the future Ocean Mall shopping center; the developer promises to build a music hall in it, according to the original plan of the author of the monument, Florian Yuriev.
Aliyev recalled that the building is on lease, the restoration project has been agreed upon with the Ministry of Culture.
“We have already started restoration. It stood for 60 years, no one restored it. When the construction of the subway started, the strip foundations sank, it began to collapse. Now, we have made piles supporting it,” he said.
He did not name the amount of investment in the project, noting that restoration work is ongoing, so it is impossible to finalize the volume at this stage. The construction of the shopping center continues, according to Aliyev, “partly with our own financing, partly with loans, we have more than a hundred million of them.”
