Metinvest's Northern Mining optimizes cargo flows in Pershotravnevy quarry to reduce costs, will expand savings measures from Jan 1

KYIV. Nov 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Northern Mining and Processing Plant (Kryvy Rih, Dnipropetrovsk region), part of the Metinvest group, has optimized cargo flows in the Pershotravnevy open pit for the delivery of raw ore to reduce production costs.

According to a press release from the plant on Thursday, despite the difficult production conditions, the miners of the Pershotravnevy quarry are working according to a new production scheme, providing the required quality for competitive iron ore and reducing its cost.

To ensure the production of high-quality concentrate at a lower cost, cargo flows from the south-eastern side were optimized by creating a transport link with a horizon of minus 130 meters and a receiving well for crushing plant No. 3 at a horizon of minus 193 meters. This made it possible to reduce the average monthly transportation distance of ore by 700 meters, which significantly affected the costs of diesel fuel and large tires for technological transport.

Ore from the south-eastern direction meets the required quality indicators, which allows concentrators to produce high-quality A-1 concentrate with 68%+ iron content. Its cost is lower compared to the concentrate previously obtained from a mixture of ore from the Pershotravnevy and Hannivsky quarries.

“Mining work continues in other directions of the Pershotravnevy quarry. In addition to the south-east, the lower horizons in the north and west are being developed. As for the western side, operational efficiency projects have already been developed, which will be implemented from January 1 of 2024 and will bring savings due to the reduction distances for transporting rock mass and corresponding optimization of costs,” the company said in the press release.
