KYIV. Nov 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ministry of Education and Science signed a memorandum of understanding with Zhytomyr City Council and the representative office of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine to create new standards for shelters in educational institutions.
“Its goal is to create design and technical documentation and design projects for shelters in educational institutions, which will be used to build new shelters in schools and kindergartens in Ukraine,” the ministry’s press service said in a statement.
It is noted that such shelter projects will take into account the needs of children for psychological and physiological comfort and comply with new state building standards.
According to the message, the developed project documentation will be publicly available to all communities of Ukraine and uploaded to the Diia application.
“Already in 2024, the first shelters according to new standards will be equipped by Zhytomyr City Council in educational institutions of the city. In the future, on the basis of these standard projects, the Ministry of Education and Science will contribute to the arrangement of shelters throughout the country so that every child has access to quality education even during war,” the department said.
It is reported that within the signed memorandum, design and estimate documentation will be developed for kindergartens with a design capacity for 100, 150, 200 and 250 people and for schools for 200, 300, 500, 700 people.
