Moldova will start purchasing gas in Q1 2024

CHISINAU. Sept 4 (Interfax) – The Moldovan state-owned company Energocom will start purchasing gas for consumption in Q1 2024, the company press service said.

Gas is being purchased as part of the Gas Supply Security project with a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The amount of the credit line is 100 million euros. The first tender will be held on September 4.

In August, Energocom announced that it had already purchased about 300 mcm of gas in tenders to prepare for the winter season of 2023-2024, which should last until the end of 2023. The average gas price was $400 per 1,000 cu. m. The minimum target volume of “blue fuel” reserves, based on the fees paid by the Moldovan authorities should be 450 mcm by October 1.

Last year, the EBRD provided Moldova with a credit line of 300 million euro for the purchase of gas. The average cost of the resource was also $400 per 1,000 cu. m. According to Energocom, this credit facility has been fully used up and has already been repaid, and the terms of the agreement allow Moldova to request its reuse.
