Moldovagaz fully paid Gazprom for gas supplied in Nov, Dec – Moldovan company head

CHISINAU. Dec 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Moldovagaz has fully paid everything due Gazprom for gas supplied in November-December 2022, Moldovagaz CEO Vadim Ceban said on Telegram.

"As of December 16, Moldovagaz paid Gazprom in full for natural gas supplied in November 2022 and also paid Gazprom $47.64 million for gas consumed in December. This was made possible, in particular, thanks to compensations amounting to almost 363.46 million lei (approximately $18 million) paid by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection," Ceban said.

As reported previously, the daily amount of gas delivered to Moldova shrank by 30% to 5.7 million cubic meters on October 1, with the country’s demand amounting to as many as 8.06 million cubic meters. Gazprom explained that decline in gas exports to Moldova were due to technical problems associated with restrictions on gas transit via Ukraine. Gazprom earlier confirmed plans to deliver to Moldova the same quantity, 5.7 mcm, per day in December. In the cool season, this amount of gas is 43.5% of what the country needs.

Moldova, however, used gas from Gazprom only in the first three days of December. On December 4, Moldova began to send all gas received from Gazprom to Transdniestria, the region that in turn covers more than 50% of Moldovan demand for electric power. Meantime, Moldova is using gas from its earlier created reserves. Transdniestria, the region on left bank of the Dniester River, has not paid for Gazprom gas in over a decade.
