More than 200,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from UN Children's Fund UNICEF delivered to Ukraine for free vaccinations

KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Some 203,000 doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, adapted to protect against the Omicron strain, have been delivered to Ukraine for free vaccinations from the UN Children’s Fund UNICEF as part of the international initiative COVAX.

The vaccine will be distributed among all regions. The storage and transportation of vaccines is provided by specialists from the regional centers for disease control and prevention in compliance with the “cold chain” requirements, the Ministry of Health said on its website.

The vaccine is intended for booster vaccination for those who have already received a primary course of vaccination against COVID-19.

According to Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Ihor Kuzin, more than 13 strains of the SARS-CoV-2 virus are currently circulating throughout Ukraine, all detected mutations are deviations from the Omicron strain.

In total, since the beginning of the epidemic season, which begins in Ukraine in October, more than a million Ukrainians have fallen ill with ARVI, influenza and COVID-19.

The general recommended course for primary vaccination against COVID-19 and the first booster is three vaccinations. The first booster is administered five months after the primary vaccination.
