KYIV. Dec 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy this week agreed to purchase 350 million cubic meters (mcm) of natural gas from Norwegian Equinor, another 100 million cubic meters were purchased on the market, head of the company Oleksiy Chernyshov said.

"During this week, Naftogaz secured almost half a billion cubic meters of gas. We are talking about approximately 350 million cubic meters from our partner, Norwegian Equinor. And also about 100 million cubic meters, which we purchased on the market from sellers authorized by the EBRD," he wrote on his Facebook page on Friday evening.

According to him, the next goal is to obtain an additional amount of gas to generate electricity, the need for which arose due to the shelling of the energy infrastructure.

"After these purchases, this volume is less than 2 billion cubic meters. We continue to work so that Ukrainians have light and heat," the head of the company added.

Earlier, Chernyshov noted that financing from the EBRD ($300 million), Canada ($350 million) and Norway ($200 million) would make it possible to purchase about 0.5 billion cubic meters of gas in January-February.
