NBU governor discusses with EU ambassador problem of blocking settlements in European banks on expert-import operations in front-line territories

KYIV. Nov 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Andriy Pyshnyy discussed with EU Ambassador to Ukraine Matti Maasikas the need to solve the problem of blocking settlements on expert-import transactions in European banks in front-line territories controlled by Ukraine.

"We discussed the need to solve the problem with the settlements of Ukrainian businesses registered in the Ukrainian-controlled part of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia and Kherson regions, for expert-import operations in European banks," the governor of the NBU wrote on Facebook.

According to him, within the framework of the next sanctions package, the EU formulated its restrictions, expanding their effect on the territories of these regions not controlled by Ukraine. However, due to the use of a risk-based approach by foreign banks, blocking is often applied to enterprises operating in territories controlled by Ukraine.

He stressed the importance of the speedy restoration of economic activity in the returned territories.

"We are looking for ways to solve the problem and count on assistance in this matter," Pyshnyy wrote.
